Mayday Malone

Band

East Nashville roots rocker Mayday Malone is a band that makes no apologies for wearing their hearts on their sleeves.  Americana music has become a home for those groups that are not easily packaged under a neat commercial label, and Mayday Malone has coined the term, “Dadicana”, as a way to describe their own brand of music. Mayday Malone is one of those bands that denies convention. Somewhere between folk and rock and forged from the friendships of singer-songwriter Chris Moynihan, bassist Scott Martin, and drummer Daryl Evans the group has built a reputation on the ethos that making music is a privilege, cathartic, and a hell of a lot of fun.

With songs that are steeped in working class sincerity the band attempts to make sense of the world they live in by telling their stories with an honesty that is reminiscent of such influences as a young Springsteen, John Prine, or even the Drive-By Truckers. Moynihan’s gritty vocals punctuate the more aggressive side of the band’s personality. With Evans and Martin providing the foundation, the group drives through songs of hard living, the consequences of such, and the hope that some day life will be more than just getting by. Listeners can’t help but feel the weariness of the threesome enduring the trials of the week just so they can cut it loose with some loud guitars and few beers on a Friday night.

After taking some time off following the release of their sophomore album and the departure of their lead guitarist, Mayday Malone is currently crafting new material and reworking some of their old favorites as three-piece band that is making music for all the right reasons. This is a band that laughs and smiles with a guitar in one hand and a beer in the other. Playing music not to get rich or famous, but because life is hard and hanging out with your friends and sharing songs is a hell of a lot better way to spend your time than sitting on your couch watching TV.

Mayday Malone’s full-length debut album, Weathered, was produced by Dave Coleman and released June 27, 2014.  Their self-produced follow-up, Red Dodge Charger, was released July 12, 2016. Both albums are available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Prime, CDBaby, and many more.

“If Guy Clark and Lucinda Williams had a second cousin… I think his name would be Chris Moynihan. ”

“Moynihan has embraced the great Northeast folk tradition with equal parts Tom Rush and Bill Morrissey, he also must have taken a few trips down to the New Jersey seacoast for there is also a bit of the bard of Asbury Park Bruce Springsteen evident here.”
